Bassett Medical Center receives award for excellent lactation care

This month, the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and the International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) recognized Bassett Medical Center (BMC) for excellence in lactation care.

The IBCLC Care Award recognizes that Bassett Medical Center regularly employs professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) certification and offers a lactation program for breastfeeding families. Additionally, BMC has demonstrated that it has recently carried out activities that help protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

“Bassett Medical Center has an incredible team of physicians, certified nurse midwives, and nurses,” says Chief Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Samuel Badalian Bassett Healthcare Network.

“It’s a wonderful recognition of their outstanding work at the birthing center.”

Annabelle Mackenzie, MA (Cantab), IBCLC, and Chair of the IBLCE Board of Directors, recently said, “The IBCLC Care Award recognizes lactation programs dedicated to providing expert assistance when families who are breastfeeding need it. Thank you to IBCLCs around the world who advance global public health by promoting breastfeeding through professional and compassionate care, advocacy and education.

IBCLCs focus on preventative care, so they are available during pregnancy to assess and provide information on how to successfully initiate breastfeeding. They continue this assistance after the baby is born by helping families overcome breastfeeding challenges, providing accurate information and continuing to support them as their baby grows. They help families returning to work or school, help families with more unusual situations like breastfeeding more than one baby or breastfeeding a sick or premature child, and help train nursing staff to manage nursing care. basic breastfeeding.
