PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News – Aug 24, 2022): Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) and Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar held a one-day Global Breastfeeding Symposium on Wednesday to raise awareness among the masses in this regard.
The seminar was held at KGMC Auditorium with the collaboration of Pakistan Pediatric Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PPA-KP), United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and KP Department of Health.
The seminar was attended by Dean KGMC HMC Prof. Dr. Zahid Aman, Medical Director MTI-HMC Prof. Dr. Shahzad Akbar, President PPA-KP Prof. Dr Muhammad Aqeel Khan, Prof. Dr. Saminullah Shah Pediatrics Head of Department B MTI-HMC, Prof. Dr. Naima Utman from Gynae Department MTI-HMC, Dr. Arshia Munir Associate Professor Department of Pediatrics MTI-KTH, UNICEF Nutrition Officer Salma Khatun and Director Nutrition Dr. Fazal Majeed Health Department and KGMC Students.
MTI-HMC Medical Director Prof. Dr. Shehzad Akbar said it is very important to continue this type of effort to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.
Keeping this in mind, the administration of the hospital has decided to create a special place for breastfeeding mothers in the Hayatabad medical complex so that women who come to the hospital do not suffer in this regard.
He also expressed his commitment that MTI-HMC will work with KGMC to educate the general public in this regard in order to contribute to this important cause.
Speaking on the occasion, the Dean of KGMC HMC, Prof. Dr. Zahid Aman said that breast milk not only increases the immunity of the child but also protects the mother from various diseases.
He said that apart from hospitals and health centers, it was inevitable to raise awareness in this regard at the community level. “If the message of this event can reach every home through KGMC students, then this effort we are making will bear fruit.” PPA-KP Chairman and Head of Pediatrics at MTI-HMC, Prof. Dr. Aqeel Khan briefed the participants on the religious perspective regarding the importance of breast milk.
He said that according to Islamic teachings, breast milk is the basic right of the child and it is also useful for the mother. During the one-day symposium, the students were also informed about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa law on breastfeeding and child nutrition.
At the end of the ceremony, shields were also distributed to the participants.
