ALIGARH: Celebrations marking World Breastfeeding Week continued in different departments and centers of the Aligarh Muslim University and several events were organized to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding for newborn babies. born.

At the Neonatal Division of the Department of Paediatrics, JN Medical College, a workshop on “Breastfeeding Myths and Facts” was held in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Aligarh to sensitize the staff of health, students, relevant staff and ordinary people. towards breastfeeding.

Prof. Kamran Afzal (Chair of the Department of Pediatrics) welcomed the guests and shed some light on the history of Breastfeeding Week. He also highlighted the average characteristics of the workshop.

In his lecture on “Breastfeeding: Myths and Facts”, Prof. S Manzir Ali pointed out misconceptions related to breastfeeding and tried to convince new mothers to breastfeed their newborn babies from birth.

Prof. Zeeba Zakaur Rab (Department of Paediatrics) spoke on “Complementary Feeding” while Dr. Alok Kulshreshtha (Chair, IAP) and Dr. Rajat Kumar (Secretary, IAP) expressed their views on “The breastfeeding: a boon for society”.

Dr. Uzma Firdaus and Dr. Iraj Alam Khan spoke on “Breast Milk Treasure” and “Problems While Breastfeeding” respectively.

Prof. Rakesh Bhargava (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine) and Prof. Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Former Director and CMS, JN Medical College) graced the occasion as Chief Guests and Guests of Honour, respectively, who highlighted the importance of breastfeeding in ensuring child health and building a healthy nation. They also presented prizes and certificates to the winners and participants of the Quiz contest, the poster design contest and the KAP assessment.

MBBS Batch 2018 students Kratika and Manal Khursheed won the quiz competition while MBBS Batch 2019 students Aman Ahmad Khan and Faiz Khan were declared the winners of the quiz competition and Swaleha Aslam and Laxmi Chandel won the quiz in the GNM student category. Alisha Ali and Mahenaz have been declared the winners of the poster design contest.

Sister Huma, Sister Neelofer and Sister Nageena interacted with breastfeeding mothers to educate them on healthy ways to breastfeed. A session on Assessing Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) regarding breastfeeding was conducted by faculty members and students of the College of Nursing, where Prof. S Manazir Ali gave an interactive lecture for the educate more about various aspects of breastfeeding.
