This Morning viewers couldn’t hold back after a mum shared her breastfeeding dilemma on Wednesday’s show. Caller Daisy spoke to hosts Holly and Phil as well as agony aunt Deidre Sanders. They sympathized with the mother after she explained the difficult situation she found herself in with her own parents.
Introducing the segment, Holly asked, “So it’s about breastfeeding and is that your mom urging you to stop?” While Daisy explained, “Yeah, well my parents in general. They’re very anti-breastfeeding. I couldn’t breastfeed my first child and suffered a lot from postpartum depression and this time I ‘ve tried to breastfeed and it’s going very well but my parents are just against it.”
But Phil couldn’t understand. “I’m sorry Daisy, why?” he asked. “Your mother is against breastfeeding?” Deidre agreed, “I know. You also have a wedding on the horizon, don’t you and she’s desperate that you shouldn’t be breastfeeding yet at the time of the wedding?
“Daisy, you can all hear us, we’re shocked. Hold on. It’s a wonderful bond between you and your baby. Please hold on. Tell your mom, I’m sorry if this ruins your fantasy. of a wedding day but it’s my wedding, it’s my baby.
“Most people at your wedding will be happy for you to feed your baby at your wedding. It’s a beautiful thing to do and if you need outside support, National Childbirth Trust on our website, they will support you .”
Keen to give her opinion, Holly added: “It’s funny isn’t it – just because it’s your mum and you’re a grown adult with a child of your own, [you] come back and kind of become the child. You feel like you’re being scolded and you feel like you have to do exactly what they say, but it’s time to fend for yourself.
“And it’s not about breastfeeding or not breastfeeding, it’s about doing what you want. It’s your choice and please just let that choice be made by you because , if not, later on, I think it will come back to haunt you a bit.”
Phil wasn’t holding back either. “I’m sure your mother is an amazing woman,” he told Daisy. “I’m sure she’s amazing but, on that point, she’s so wrong. Do you feel like that helped at all?”
Later he advised, “I think you have to do it and be hell with it. You have to do what makes you feel good and bond with your baby.” Meanwhile, viewers also took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the matter.
One said, “Daisy, tell your mom to fuck off. Your baby, your period. If you want to breastfeed, then breastfeed. It has nothing to do with her.” Another wrote: “Tell your parents to get rid of Daisy.” A third added: “Tell your mum to crush Daisy!”
